Thank you for your bug report. This issue has been fixed
in the latest released version of the package, which you can download at
http://pear.php.net/get/Archive_Zip

Don't know what append exactly. But the release was first manually removed, so my guess is that it has break something. I just do a maintenance release 0.1.1 to solve it quickly.
