Description:
------------
When scripts connect to "localhost" errors with title "unexpected responses" appear on posting (via mail()).
The same script works fine when connecting to remote hosts. PHP configurations are identical on both machines. (phpinfo() only differs in build-date and hostname etc.)
Manual reproduction (thus typeing every line by hand being connected via telnet) interestingly does not lead to any of the "unexpected responses".
Please note that the NNTP-server makes no difference about remote or local connections (only one pair in INNd's readers.conf). Verified manually.
Test script:
---------------
Please see bug 6833.
Expected result:
----------------
There should be no difference between behaviour on having connected to remote or local hosts.
Actual result:
--------------
Connections to "localhost" (or any equivalent pointing to 127.0.0.1) lead to unexpected responses:
[message] => Unexpected response
[userinfo] => Permission denied
[_currentStatusResponse] => Array
(
[0] => 502
[1] => Permission denied
)

At first sight I would say that this is a simple case of the server rejecting the client access because of access restrictions, but since you have tested via telnet, and found that to work... A dump of the conversation between client and server would come in handy on this bugger!
Such dump could be fetched by attaching a PEAR logger to the instance of Net_NNTP_Client...

It turned out to be a false line in "incoming.conf" (resulting in INN responding in place of NNRPD).
Therefore this bug is to be seen as unrelated to Net_NNTP and thus bogus. My apologies.
